My Bug List

  1. UF Neglects macOS

They are not the only ones that do it. Every major organization that needs to use enterprise software prefers Windows over macOS. Apple just doesn't make enterprise software, and working around macOS to get an enterprise-like experience just doesn't cut it. Also, Macs are expensive. And if they updated all their iMacs when updates are released, the CPU's would slow down at a much faster rate. So U.F saves money, and gives a better experience to their students and faculty by using Windows as their main software.

  2. Apple's Lack of Enterprise Software

Easily explained, Apple is not in the enterprise business. They want to make their devices work together seamlessly, and they make each separate device as minimalist as possible. This yields compromising in a lot of fields. Their most expensive iMac Pro is only as powerful as it is because of the close hardware-software integration. But that means most Macs would not run enterprise software well. They are also a luxury tech company, which is only another reason why they don't make enterprise software.

  3. Inability to Choose Where Financial Aid Goes (What It Pays)

Last one about U.F, I promise

If you have any financial aid in your account, unfortunately you cannot choose what that money covers. Even if you have a housing or course fee due before tuition, tuition always comes first. Maybe its not that important for most people, but it would just make things easier to follow.

  4. Cities Designed Around Cars

Most cities are designed with cars in mind. And for good reason. Driving everywhere you go is easier than walking, and it also allows you to take other people with you without any extra effort. And if you go grocery shopping, your limit on how much you can buy is no longer limited by how much you can hold or how long you can hold those bags for, but by the size of your car, which is always going to be greater than what a single person could carry.

  5. Mobile Payments (Apple, Samsung, Android Pay) Are Overlooked

This is exists in a vicious cycle. People don't tend to use them because 1) not everyplace offers mobile payments and 2) not everyone uses them, so those who do use them are usually the odd ones out. And not every retailer is looking forward to reworking their payment infrastructure to support mobile payments.

  6. Facebook Still The Most Popular Social Media Platform

Well, Facebooks and the Internet grew faster than T-Series (sub to PewDiePie), so almost everyone created a Facebook profile at some point, and got deep into it. And for the most part, Facebook is the best platform for groups and organizations because of their events features.

  7. San Jose Blvd. Chick-fil-A Backs Up During Rush Hours

I swear I'm not just copying the example from Canvas

Being one of the most popular fast-food places in the U.S, and one of the few in that area, its bound to be full during rush hours. Despite this, they are probably the fastest drive-thru in Jacksonville. Their secret creates another bug.

  8. Other Drive Thrus Take Longer But Are Emptier

Since Chick-fil-A sends employees out to take orders, they can take as many orders as cars are waiting, as opposed to most other drive-thrus. The standard fast-food place drive-thru has one or two lanes for cars with an intercom at the end to place the orders. But if cars are stopped, orders are not coming in. This is why you can go to a McDonald's with only four or five cars and take sometimes 20 minutes, but take just 10 in a Chick-fil-A full of cars (the line literally wraps around the restaurant and sometimes even further).

  9. Newer Mac Models Can Overheat Easily

Apple wants their products to be luxurious. Nobody likes the fan noise a computer makes, so Apple makes sure the fans stay off for as long as possible. And since the body is made of metal, it retains heat extremely well. If you are out in the heat with a 4-year old or newer MacBook you'll definitely feel it overheat.

  10. The World Still Uses USB-A Instead of USB-C

Unfortunately USB-C, despite having some software influence, is more of a hardware upgrade. And hardware cannot be updated after it's been sold. And since not every piece of hardware in circulation supports USB-C, legacy ports can't be eliminated all together, and can therefore not even be called legacy ports (older ports that can be replaced by USB-C, like USB-A, Micro-USB, HDMI, Mini-Display, headphone jack, etc).

  11. We Are Addicted To Technology

Nowadays, the vast majority of humans interact with technology everyday, and a most of us rely on it. This is caused by the practical aspect of technology: it makes things easier. It might also be because of the control we have over it. We can't control other humans, but we are the ones who program technology to do whatever we want it to do. It has made our lives easier.

  12. Driver-less Cars Haven't Taken Off

Unfortunately, driver-less cars are still not perfect. The problems lies in the computing power needed to make a fully driver-less car work with humans still on the road is way more than we have currently. Sure, there are driver-less cars that actually work, but none of them can be used out on the road because they need some way to know where everything is, including other drivers, stop lights, highway exits, and pedestrians.

  13. Airport Food Is Expensive

The price of airport food can be up to 10 percent higher than other retail places. But there is limited storage space, and there is also a limit in stores. People only get so many choices, and are kind of forced to pay whatever prices they have if they really want food.

  14. The U.S In Soccer

    It hurts.

The U.S has one of the greatest sports networks for public schools, and the college division often kick-starts many NFL player's careers. But for some reason soccer just isn't one of those sports. One of the main reasons might be because of a relatively slower game (in terms of play build-up, not actual game time). Soccer is a sport with almost no breaks. Other than half-time, VAR (Video Assistant Referee) reviews, substitutions, and goal celebrations, there are barely any breaks during the game, which can make it seem longer than it actually is. Also, since play almost never stops, both teams are constantly attacking, often without a concrete result (its all about scoring them goals... you can ask Barcelona and Ajax). So it can be dissappointing when after 90 minutes, there were only one or two goals.

  15. Rechargeable Batteries Naturally Degrade

Most, if not all, rechargeable batteries are Lithium-ion batteries. Naturally, they can retain whatever charge they are designed to hold for about 6 months, depending on the size and quality. After that, you are in the endgame (greatest movie in history btw). This is caused by one of the main parts in the battery, the cathode. Charging batteries moves power from the cathode to the anode, and using batteries is the reverse. This causes the cathode to lose strength over time, and it can progressively hold less and less power.

  16. Florida's Wonderful Weather

Florida has to be one of the hottest states, and that's before humidity. That only makes it feel even hotter. Oh and it can rain any second, last for about 5 minutes, and then go back to heat. Unfortunately, geography made Florida be a tropical zone, and the slight tilt of the Earth means Florida is closer to the sun than other parts of the world. As if that wasn't enough, its closer to the Equator.

  17. Pizza Places "Don't Cover" Certain Areas

Ok, there are limitations. But I have been in situations where a I was told my house was out of range, followed by a driver from the same store driving PAST my house and delivering pizza not even 10 minutes later. I expect that to happen in Peru, since there are a lot less pizza places there, and delivery is not that common. But here? The problem is streets are always being updated, and having a limit set at a certain house in a certain street seems kind of arbitrary (I'm looking at you Jimmy John's, and yes I know they are not a pizza place), so they set up "No Delivery" zones to control where drivers cannot go.

  18. Charlotte's Airport

Am I the only one who has a perfect record of being switched gates at Charlotte? Now, to be fair, airports have to adapt to things happening with the planes and delayed incoming flights, so maybe it was just really bad luck, but I will be traveling again soon, and something tells me things won't be too different.

  19. The 2022 Qatar World Cup

Why would you choose a country with extreme summer temperatures and no soccer tradition to host soccer's biggest tournament which takes place during the summer? Because they will pay FIFA if they are chosen. This is literally what happened 9 years ago, when it was first announced that Qatar would host the 2022 World Cup. Unfortunately, this happened because of corruption among FIFA leaders, who accepted bribes from Qatar in exchange for votes. The only good thing about this is now people can't say FIFA doesn't like Arab countries.

  20. Volume Control Is Terrible

At least its wireless. But most people have been watching a movie when suddenly the characters start talking quietly, so we raise the volume, only for some loud thing to happen right after and startle more than one. This happens because most TVs, despite nowadays having some software for smart features, don't have an algorithm that can decipher how loud something should be if you raise the volume from 20 to 25, for example. It would be hard to make a mainstream feature too, since not all TVs are equally loud. But that could be used for more than just TVs. All video streaming platforms could benefit from that.

After doing this activity I realize that there are a lot more things that bother me than I originally thought. But I also realized that I can stay somewhat unbiased and objective about why these things exist. Overall it was a fun activity, I learned a lot about problems in the world and about myself.
